Suzannah Rose Chewning, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend, passed away peacefully at Good Samaritan Hospital on February 25, 2025, at the age of 82. She was surrounded by the love of her family as she courageously ended her battle with pancreatic cancer.

Born in East Orange, New Jersey, Suzannah's childhood years took her to Detroit and Long Island before her family settled in Bethesda, Maryland. She pursued her passion for helping others by earning a nursing degree from Washington Hospital Center. In the summer of 1963, she married the love of her life, Jack Chewning, embarking on their sixty-one years together.

As the wife of an Air Force officer, Suzannah embraced the adventure of frequent moves in the early years of marriage. In the late 1960s, they put down roots in the Bay Area when Jack began his career with United Airlines, and in 1976, Saratoga became their home.

Suzannah's greatest joy was her family. She was a loving mother to Elizabeth Barton (Eric) and Carolyn Elliott (Richard) and a proud grandmother to Elissa Barton, Andrew Barton (Portia), Mitchell Elliott, Russell Elliott, Jack Elliott, and Chase Elliott. Beloved sister to Bowen F. Rose II (Victoria). She was also a much-loved aunt to Melissa Holloway, the late Cathy Wilson, Sharon Van Buskirk, Kim Ursery, Ashley Rose, Bowen F. Rose III, Jefferson Rose, and Joshua Rose; Great Aunt to Heather, Nikki, Brandee, Sarah, Joseph, Lillian and Mas.

A woman of many talents, Suzannah had a passion for gardening, knitting, and sewing, crafting everything from curtains to costumes. With a love for cooking and a flair for hosting, Suzannah poured her heart into every meal she prepared. Her kitchen buzzed with warmth and laughter, making it the heart of the home, while her beautifully orchestrated holiday gatherings became cherished traditions and brought the entire family together.

Suzannah will be dearly missed, but her love, kindness, and the beautiful life she built will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew her.

Suzannah will be laid to rest at Madronia Cemetery in Saratoga, California.
