Ty Han
Nguyen
Feb 26, 1927 — Dec 19, 2018
Cupertino
Nguyen Han Ty, husband of the late Nguyen Thi Gam, passed away peacefully on Wednesday December 19 th , 2018 in Sunnyvale, CA, at the age of 91.
Mr. Nguyen was born in Ha Noi, Vietnam on February 26, 1927 to Nguyen Han Mac and Le Thi Vet. He graduated from South Vietnam Military Academy at Thu Duc and National Polytechnic at Phu Tho with a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering.
After Vietnam was divided into North and South in 1954, Mr. Nguyen brought his young family to Saigon to start a new life. He kept himself quite busy serving as an officer overseeing several important programs for the government. He was also a part-time professor at the National Polytechnic, all while being a dedicated husband and loving father to his 8 children.
In 1975, at the fall of South Vietnam, Mr. Nguyen once again uprooted his family to find freedom in America. Mr. Nguyen made Northern California his new home, initially in Sacramento and then to Silicon Valley for the rest of his life.
During his career, Mr. Nguyen had many fond memories of the time he was the Director of the Vietnam Department of Veterans Affairs, when he often went above and beyond to help many families of the fallen and injured war heroes. Mr. Nguyen was also proud of being able to join the high tech world at IBM in San Jose, contributing to the designs and constructions of some of the most advanced laboratories and modern campuses at the time.
Mr. Nguyen enjoyed getting involved with the community. Whether it was the Rotary Club in Saigon, or Vietnamese Community Association in the area, or Alumni Association of the Academy or Polytechnic, Mr. Nguyen was either the leader or an organizer of major annual events to have a platform to socialize and promote friendships.
Most of all, Mr. Nguyen loved to spend time with his family and friends and lived life to the fullest. His legacy will live on in the hearts and minds of everyone his life has touched.
Mr. Nguyen will be forever remembered by his 8 children, 16 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren, and their spouses.
