Beloved member of the Saratoga community, Vivian Oulman Schember ("Mimi" as she was affectionately known) passed away peacefully on December 13, 2022, at 101 years of age. Vivian Willa Oulman was born to Cecil and Lenna Hangartner Oulman on September 27, 1921, in Sherburn, Minnesota. She was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) and had several forbearers who fought at Lexington and Concord in 1775. Vivian also had ancestors among the Plymouth Colonists, one of whom was present at the first Thanksgiving and a relative who fought in the Civil War. Vivian was the 18 ^th granddaughter and direct descendent of King Edward I of England.

Vivian graduated from Estherville High School in Iowa on June 1, 1939. She was active on campus and in the community, participated in school plays and sang with a mezzo-soprano voice. She was fondly referred to as the "sunny blond." She continued her education at Estherville Junior College, served on the student council and was voted the "Most Popular Girl" in school. Vivian attended the University of Iowa and received her Bachelor's Degree on April 23, 1944. She pursued her advanced education at Stanford University and graduated with an M.A. in Education on June 12, 1960.

Vivian met Stanley William Schember at the University of Iowa and they were wed on February 7, 1943. Stan was a talented musician and together they lived a full and happy life. Stan, who managed an insurance agency, passed away on December 8, 1989. They had three loving and successful children, Susan Dahlem of Huntington Beach, CA, Diane Colman of Frisco, CO, and Steven Schember of Crockett, CA, who passed away on February 26, 2013.

While Vivian and Stan were living in Pacifica before moving to Saratoga, Vivian was the Board of Education President for the Laguna Salada Elementary District. She was a substitute teacher and President of Mizpah at the Little Brown Church in Sharp Park, California.

Vivian was a licensed California Educational Psychologist and a Marriage & Family Therapist. She worked for the Campbell Unified School District for 27 years. She was a member of the Delta Kappa Gamma Educational Sorority and of local, state and national school psychologist associations.

Vivian was full of life and loved Saratoga where she lived in the same home since 1957. She was a member of Hakone Gardens, University of Iowa Alumni Association, Stanford Alumni Association, was an avid coin/stamp collector, and enjoyed bird watching with the National Audubon Society. Vivian attended St. Andrews Episcopal Church in Saratoga, served as a Clerk for general elections, and volunteered at The Echo Shop. She was an avid reader, art collector, enjoyed beading and was an excellent needlepointer, making incredible Christmas stockings for all her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Vivian was active with the Saratoga Senior Center where she donated a bench inscribed, " Keep On Walking ." Incredibly, at the age of 80 she began to read poetry well into her 90's at the Blue Rock Shoot in Saratoga where she became a fixture as one of the most popular performing artists.

Vivian Schember is survived by her loving daughters Susan (Sioux) Dahlem (John) and Diane Colman (Chris), her grandchildren Shawn Dahlem (Monica) of San Francisco, CA, Ryan Dahlem (Anne) of San Juan Capistrano, CA, Shane Orr of Denver, CO, Ivy Schember Stain (Jared) of Long Beach, CA, and great-grandchildren Holly Dahlem, Johnny Dahlem, Leila Dahlem, Peter Mack, Ella Mack, Colin Dahlem, Christian Orr, Addison Orr, and Stanley Stain.

Vivian lived a healthy and full life and will always be a role model, promoting the importance of family and friends, education, helping others, pursuing interests, and independence. Vivian was respected, admired and loved by so many and leaves a wonderful legacy with the countless lives she touched.

Private funeral arrangements by Alameda Family and Cremation, Inc., in Saratoga, CA with burial at Madronia Cemetery. The family would like to extend gratitude to Hospice of the Valley. In lieu of flowers, a memorial donation for educational scholarships to DAR, Los Gatos Chapter, or Delta Kappa Gamma Los Gatos Chapter, or the George Mark Children's House, georgemark.org, in San Leandro would be appreciated by her family.
