Whitney Mark Evans beloved son, brother, uncle, nephew, cousin and friend died Thursday, March 7, 2019. For those of us fortunate enough to have known him, we grieve. There was never a smarter, kinder, gentler soul to walk this earth.

Mark was born in Los Angeles, California on August 31, 1953, to Whitney and Rose Evans. He grew up in the San Francisco Bay Area, attended Bellarmine College Prep, Stanford University, and Santa Clara University. He was proud of all the schools he attended, and saved his most enthusiastic support as alum for the Stanford Band where he played as an undergrad. Mark worked for the Santa Clara County Valley Transportation Authority for 35 years before retirement in 2015.

He loved his family, his friends and trains down to his marrow. Riding the rails was the joy of his life, always excitedly anticipating what was around the next bend. With a glass of hardy burgundy in one hand and a cigar in the other, he shared the stories and photos of his travels. It was then that he was his happiest self.

He will be welcomed by his loving mother Rose, and sorely missed by his father Whitney, sister Joan, brother-in-law Mark, niece Isabella and a host of family and friends. Take time to enjoy the ride. Actively listen to others as Mark did, and above all be kind.
