Yasuko Sumida Wentz was born in Nagasaki Japan on October 3, 1928. She passed peacefully
in the early morning hours of August 20th while being comforted by her children and told how
much she was loved. The youngest of three Yasuko was the rock for her parents Kansuke and
Niwa, brother Torauki and sister Shizuko.

During her high school years Yasuko was required to support the Japanese war effort by working in the Mitsubishi
shipyard as a grease monkey as she called herself.

On that faithful day when the United States dropped the atomic bomb on
Nagasaki Yasuko was one of only three girls told Not to report to work that day. As she washed
her hair at home her sister Shizuko asked her to come look at the three B-29s dropping a
parachute over the city. Because a small hill lay between Yasuko and ground zero she and her
family survived the blast. A few years later during the Korean war Yasuko met an air force
master sergeant stationed in Japan, Cyrus Wentz who she married and had four children with,
sons Mark, Chris, Jimmy and daughter Mari.

Yasuko's warm smile and big heart touched all things. Her love of life, giving nature, special
connection with animals and compassion for all were an inspiration to all who knew her. The
world is a better place for Yasuko having passed this way.
